Privacy Policy

Storyforge is operated by Venture Republic LLC. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. We've written it to be read, not buried.

1. What we collect

Account and waitlist data

When you join the waitlist or create an account, we collect your first name, last name (optional), email address, and the writing segment you select (novelist, screenwriter, etc.). We use this to communicate with you about your access and to personalise your experience.

Writing and documents

Storyforge stores the manuscripts, screenplays, notes, character sheets, and world-building entries you create inside the product. This content is encrypted at rest. We do not read it, analyse it, or share it with any third party except as described in the AI features section below.

Usage data

We collect anonymised product analytics including page views and feature interactions. This data never includes the content of your writing. See the Analytics section below for details.

Technical data

Standard server logs may include your IP address, browser type, and referring URL. These are retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes and are not linked to your identity in any persistent way.

2. How we use your data

We use your data to operate the product, send you access invitations and product updates, respond to support requests, and improve the software. We do not sell your data. We do not use your writing to train AI models. We do not share your personal data with advertisers.

3. Cookies

We use a small number of first-party cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. We do not have a tracking pixel. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some product features may not function correctly without them.

4. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to record page views and interaction events on the marketing site. This may collect your IP address and general location. No personally identifiable information is linked to analytics data. You can opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

5. AI features

Certain features, including the Story Review Engine and Harper (the AI writing assistant), send portions of your manuscript to a large-language-model provider to generate a response. The following protections apply:

  • The provider is contractually prohibited from training on your data.
  • Content is not retained by the provider beyond the duration of the request.
  • No manuscript content is stored on our servers in connection with AI requests beyond what is necessary to return the result to you.

AI features can be disabled per-project if you prefer not to use them.

6. Data storage and security

Storyforge data is stored in US regions (primary) with EU replication for European accounts. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). On request, we can commit to EU-only storage for GDPR-regulated accounts.

We apply industry-standard security practices and conduct regular reviews. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you within 72 hours of becoming aware of it.

7. Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your account, we delete your personal data and manuscripts within 30 days and can provide an export of your work in any standard format on request. Waitlist data is retained until you request deletion or until 24 months of inactivity.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have the following rights:

  • Access. Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction. Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion. Ask us to delete your personal data.
  • Portability. Request your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection. Object to certain types of processing, including direct marketing.

To exercise any of these rights, email legal@usestoryforge.com. We respond to all requests within 30 days.

9. Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate Storyforge:

  • Email delivery provider — waitlist management and transactional email.
  • Cloud infrastructure providers — hosting, infrastructure, and data storage.
  • Analytics provider — anonymised website analytics.

Each of these providers has their own privacy policy and data processing terms. We only share data with them to the extent necessary to operate the product.

10. Children

Storyforge is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe we have done so, please contact us and we will delete it immediately.

11. Changes to this policy

We will notify active users by email at least 30 days before any material change to this policy. The updated policy will always be available at this URL.
